FAQs

Your wedding photos are one of the most important investments you can make when planning your wedding day.
Flowers, bridal dresses, location, and cake are all important, but your wedding photos will be with you for the rest of your life and on. That’s my job.

Q: This is exactly the type of photography that I have been looking for. What kind of investment are we talking about?
A: Most wedding experts recommend you allocate at least 15 percent of your total wedding budget to photography. Photographs are so important to the couples that come to meet with me that they have often budgeted a far larger percentage. At the end of the day you need to invest in that which is most important to you. Just keep in mind that since your photographs and albums are some of the only things that remain after your wedding day, you might want them to rock. There are no do-overs in wedding photography.

Q: What is your photographic style?
A: Terms of photographic style are so misused these days that they’re practically meaningless. If my pictures speak to you then you’ll know it’s YOUR style. That’s what’s most important. My style is all about capturing the real you and the joy of living. Painlessly and unobtrusively.

Q: Can you tell me why I should choose you?
A: Photographs are important to you. You want those from your wedding to be amazing.
A: My images speak to you in a certain way – you appreciate how they appear more alive, more evocative, more fun, more… something. And you want that.
A: Like me you might be a person who hates their picture taken so you want to hire someone that makes it easy, pleasant, and even fun. At the same time you want me invisible for most of the day.
A: You think that most photographers’ work looks pretty much the same and you want something better – something more you and not so ‘weddingy’.
A: You understand that the person you hire is going to be an integral part of your entire wedding experience and you wan someone who can actually put you at ease and add to the pleasure of your day.

Q: You indicate the personality of the photographer is important. Why?
A: Keep in mind that you’ll be spending almost the entire day (the most hectic and emotional day of your life) with your photographer. You want to feel comfortable around and supported by this person. You want someone who knows when to take charge and when to be utterly invisible.

Q: The people are almost always smiling in your pictures, you must tell them to smile no?
A: Nope, look in the mirror and smile. Or say cheese. What you see probably doesn’t look like you are having fun, or a natural smile. My clients are smiling and look like hey are having fun because they ARE having fun. I won’t tell you to smile, but I might make you smile, there’s a big difference. But that’s my secret don’t tell anyone.

Q: So you engage your subjects?
A: During portraits absolutely. But during the ceremony toasts, dances, etc. you and your guests won’t even know I am around.

Q: Do you shoot digital?
A: 100 percent Yes

Q: Do you travel?
A: Absolutely! Have passport – will travel for weddings anywhere.

Q: Do you shoot video as well?
A: I focus exclusively on still photography. I would be happy to refer my clients to a few select and excellent videographers.

Q: Do you bring backup equipment?
A: Ahhhh the book or magazine that suggested you ask that question has created that list to make sure you are not accidentally hiring someone who does this as a way to make a few extra bucks. Photography, next to my family, is my life. The answer is absolutely.

Q: This FAQ thing goes on forever. Does it ever end?
A: Eventually, but if you are still reading this you must be really interested in this kind of stuff, and that’s why I have provided so much information. Just to make people like you 100 percent comfortable.

Q: What do I need to do to hire you?
A: A signed agreement and a deposit of 25 percent are required to reserve the date for you. Dates are filled on a first come first served basis and once I am booked I am booked, so don’t wait.  Some prime dates are booked a year and a half in advance.

Q: What if I have questions that aren’t listed here?
A: Drop me an email at Derek@BostonPerspective.com or click on my contact link above.  I’d love to hear what you’re planning and discuss how I can preserve your memories for you.

Q: Why is the sky sometimes red at sunset?
A: The Earth’s atmosphere is filled with tiny particles that scatter waves of sunlight as it passes through. Light waves in the blue end of the spectrum of visible light have a much higher frequency than those at the red end and thus have further to travel to get to Earth  and are therefore more likely to  be scattered and absorbed by the atmosphere. A proportionally greater amount of red light waves at lower frequencies manages to pass unobstructed through the atmosphere thus making the sky appear reddish at sunset.

Q: ?
A:  Oh come on, you know that’s cool. I had to give you some kind of reward for getting to the end of this…
